Other Bi-Annual Maintenance

car maintenance and repairDriving down the highway you’d think that there were only about three models of cars made. Of course, it’s not true. In fact, there are about 200 different models now being manufactured. And each year each model changes slightly from last year’s model.

That means each car may have additional maintenance requirements. Air conditioners and ventilation systems like to have their filters changed every couple of years (or less). Steering components need periodic alignment. Suspension parts such as shocks need replacement. Even no-maintenance batteries can use a cleaning once in awhile.

The point here is that doing all the maintenance covered in the last five sections won’t guarantee a trouble-free car. There may be other maintenance recommendations included in your car’s owner’s manual. However, the biggest and most popular ones are here. Spending an hour or two each month maintaining your car will ensure it a longer life—and your piece of mind.

Tech Tip

Transmission shops use a dialysis-type machine to pump old transmission fluid out while pumping new fluid in. The process takes just a few minutes. However, the tool is too expensive for do-it-yourselfers.
