Upholstery can be torn, ripped, cut, or come apart at the seams. What to do?
-
Identify the upholstery material.
-
Identify the damage. If it’s a rip or cut, can it be repaired by placing repair tape on the underside of the fabric? If a seam has opened, can it be repaired from the underside or should a complementary-colored tape be used to keep it from fraying? Upholstery repair kits available at auto parts stores will tell you what you can and cannot do with them?
-

If necessary, remove the damaged seat or panel from the car and disassemble to repair.
-
If available, purchase an upholstery repair kit for the type of material and follow manufacturer's instructions.
