Parts can be anything from relatively easy or very difficult to replace. In most cases, the problem isn’t connecting or installing the part, it’s getting to it. Step-by-step illustrated instructions in this book will guide you for many common parts replacements. Beyond that, here are some useful tips:
-
Many wire connections simply pull apart; if they don’t come apart easily, look for a clip or button that can be pushed to release the connection.
-
Use 1-inch wide masking tape to mark any wires disconnected or extra parts removed so you know how they go back together.
-
A tight (non-electric) part that defies removal often can be loosened after a careful spraying with WD-40 or a similar penetrating lubricant product.
-
If in doubt, ask your auto parts clerk for tips on removing and replacing a specific part.
-
If you can’t find a part on your car, check the owner’s manual or service manual for drawings and photographs.
-
If you find the part that needs replacing but don’t feel comfortable tearing things out to get to it, consider getting professional help.
